Backpacking Europe July 2011..starting destination Barcelona

Hi, I am a 20 year old male from US. This is my first time backpacking EVER! I plan on spending the month of July in Europe.

Wooaaww... too bad i'm traveling around Europe in the month of Sept. Maybe you could add in Switzerland, Prague (Czech Republic) and if you can definitely Greece..

Btw... HAPPY TRAVELING!!! :D

Il join you

I have visited all of these cities! You will have a good time. 1st off I would suggest a rail pass, that will save you some $$$$, and if you are flexible for long trips, get a sleeper train so you don't have to worry about a hostel.

Madrid will be very hot!!! during this time, just be warned. It is bearable compared to the south of Spain, but it's really quite gross. My suggestion would be to skip it all together, unless you really really want to go there. Barcelona is much nicer.

Paris: try to visit Giverny (home of Monet) It isn't very far and quite nice to get out a big city. Also Normandy is a short overnight stay from Paris. Also, Versailles.

Amsterdam: If you can make it out of the Centrium (city center) you will see a very beautiful Holland (windmills, tulips and such). Also Brussels (2 hours from A'dam) is AWESOME!!! AWESOME, awesome, awesome!!! If you are interested, check out Delirium (bar) great place to meet other travelers and get a great Belgium Ale.

Venice/Rome: Loved Venice, it's so chill. Roma ... hot as death!! If you can make it to Naples/Capri it may be cooler. Also Pompei/Mt. Vesuvius makes for an exciting trip.

It might be out of your way, but Germany is also a very cool country. I would recommend reading up on Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Munster, Essen, Dusseldorf, and Koln.

Also, wish I could go!! I'll be in eastern europe then.

Hello,

I would like to suggest the tuscany province in Italy... Great places are there for the backpackers. The region of Tuscany inspires images of picturesque landscapes, vineyards and famous artists at work. Popular with backpackers, the area has many attractions and a diverse range of activities to suit any traveller's tastes. Florence Known as the 'cradle of the Renaissance', Florence is a popular place for backpackers to marvel at Italian art and history.
