I am planning a trip to Los Angeles but have a transfer at Vancouver airport for several hours - any idea how I can kill the time without the need to buy food or duty free all the time - anyting else I can do??
You can take the metro line over to the Bridgeport station--and then either visit the Red Rock Casino (near the water to your left), or go to one of the many restaurants listed on this website:

I not positive about the price to take the metro over to the Bridgeport station from the airport YVR station--but I believe it is $5 round trip (Canadian dollars).

Keep in mind that if you leave the airport, you will have to go back through security before being allowed to go to your plane, though--so you'll have to allow at least 1/2 hour just for this.
If you are going to Vancouver in March, I notice that the International Food Court at the Red Rock Casino is having specials at their Asian Noodle Market. The deal is that between 11 AM and 9 PM you can get either 1 main course item plus vegetables plus steamed rice or noodles for $6 or you can get 2 main course items plus vegetables plus steamed rice or noodles for $8 (not counting tax, which will be about another $1) (All prices are in Canadian dollars).
