MONEY IN THAILAND AND VIETNAM

THE THING IS THAT HERE IN MEXICO I CAN´T FIND ACURATE INFORMATION ABOUT THIS, SO I´M PLANNING ON GOING FOR TWO MONTHS, AND TO SPEND 100O USD PER MONTH, DO YOU THINK TA WILL BE OK, MY PLAN IS TO STAY IN CHEAPEST PLACES AND EATING IN THE STREETS.

You can certainly live off 1000 USD per month in Thailand and Vietnam.

yes you will be able to stay comfortably and eat in restaurants for 1000 USD per month

For 2 months you will need a tourist visa. With Mexico passport you can only get 30 days free entry at the airport but you need 60 days. Contact a Thai embassy and get a tourist visa. Otherwise you would have to go to another nearby country in Asia and then fly into Thailand again for another free 30 days. By the time you need this visa they may be free again. Every time Thailand wants to stimulate tourism they make the tourist visa free.

Pattaya is a cheap city to live in. Only a couple hours from Bangkok. Pattaya is something like Tijuana except for being cleaner, safer, cheaper and easier to navigate! (Phuket the most expensive.)

I've been to both countries, and really prefer Vietnam (I just seem to connect better with the Vietnamese for some reason). You will find the larger cities to be considerably more expensive than the small towns, but that budget should be fine. You should also consider Laos - I was in Luang Prabang last year (not exactly a cheap place, but I found a great place for $12. a night).

Vietnam currently has the most complicated visa - I use the VOA visa that you can arrange online for $15. or $20. (you also pay another $25. at the airport). Thailand and Laos have far simpler visas that can be arranged at the airport, but for extended stays, you need to do as karazyal says for Thailand.

Many people have compared Vietnam to Mexico, and it's easy to see why. The Vietnamese are somewhat more aggressive than the Thai/Lao personality - it's all about the push to keep their heads above water (inflation is over 20%). There are scams that the traveler should know about in advance, but these are well known, and easily learned so they can be avoided.

I heard that excursion in Bangkok are pretty expencive. Anyone knows something about that?

I guess it depends on what you think "expensive" is! For tours you can get them through local travel agencies on short notice. Sometimes even for the same afternoon or evening. Some hotels also have tour desks. There is no charge to stop in and check out the tours available and ask for prices. Most of the travel agencies have about the same price. I find the tours cheaper in Thailand than Singapore and cheaper than the Philippines too.

Just locate the nearest travel agency to your hotel. No need to go hunting up some place clear across the city. There are many travel agencies near where tourists usually book their hotels.

To be honest, with 1000 USD/month you will live very very good in Vietnam. You should rent a house, this will cost you about 150-200 USD/month. Eating is also quite cheap, 1-2 USD/meal, for this amount you won't have to eat on streets, you can go into a cafe and enjoy your meal there.
Please consider, the salary of a Vietnamese is about 250 USD/month, they live quite good with this sum.
Shall you need something, just mail me.

Thanl you very mucho for all the info.
