2 month America

Hi everyone,

Hi Andrew from Australia,

Are you flying or driving during these two months? Maybe you're doing both.

I am a northern Californian who lives near San Francisco. You don't want to miss what I consider one of the best cities in the world while in California. LA is fun, but San Francisco is a world class city. LA, while a city, feels more like a giant sprawling suburb of strip malls and fast food restaurants.

Chicago is an amazing place, but bundle up. It can be cold in November. Buddy Guy's club is the best place to hear blues. Make sure you find a local pizza place that serves traditional Chicago style pizza. I love New York City too. Ellis Island and the statue of Liberty tours are worth your time. Seeing a Broadway show is a must and you can get very discounted same day tickets at a booth in the middle of Times Square called TKTS.

If you're going to go to Texas, Austin is definitely the best place to go. The rest of the state is not impressive. The only cool thing in Houston is the NASA museum at the NASA headquarters.

Washington DC is amazing with a lot of free things to do. The Smithsonian museums are amazing and free. The Air and Space and the American history museums are my favorite.
The Florida Avenue Grill has been owned by the same family since the 1940's and I don't think the decor has changed since then. It has the best soul food in town.

Sedona, Arizona I think is about the prettiest scenery on the US mainland. So is Zion National park in Utah. If you have some bucks, treat yourself to the Enchantment resort in Sedona.

Las Vegas is surreal and fun at the same time. The Strip is cool, but Fremont Street is old school Vegas with smaller casinos on a pedestrian mall that hosts a light show above the street. A very nice hotel on Fremont is the Golden Nugget. If you stay on the strip, The Mirage is a nice place and somewhat centrally located. Mandalay Bay is very nice and has the best pool area, but most pool areas in Vegas will probably be closed in November.

In San Francisco, stay in the Union Square or Embarcadero areas. The St. Francis right in Union Square is a grand old hotel in a great location. Lefty O'Doul's is a sports bar and restaurant that has been around for over 70 years and is around the corner from the St. Francis.

I hope enjoy America while you're here.

Hi MsBlues,

Thankyou so much for the information you provided. Now that im used to this forum, i will give you an idea of exactly were we are heading..

Flying into LA staying in west Hollywood for about 5 night (Long enough i think), heading doen to San Diego by bus?? or a couple of days, zoo etc.

Driving to Vegas from SD. Maybe in vegas for about 5 or so nights. trip to Grand Canyon etc etc... Making our way to Austin from there, not sure if driving or Flying or bus etc.

From Austin to somewhere in Florida, wether it be Miami if worth while or maybe Orlando?. making way up to Charleston SC and heading on a cruise out to Bahamas fro 4 nights.

From Charleston i want to do a drive heading to Augusta up to Nashville, Memphis and then follow the mississippi down to New Orleans.

From there flying to Chicago and making way to Clevland for christmas with my cousin (Cold) assume??

Heading to Buffalo Niagra Falls etc then to New York for 2 or so weeks.... maybe see Washington and Philly???

so thats about it in a nutshell. maybe fly to New York after Austin first maybe on the cards..

Thankyou so much for you input and help, if i have any questions would love to be able to ask you..

Thanks again. One excited Aussie!!!

I've explored Vegas a lot during my 3 weeks stay there. There is a lot to go for like Shark Reef (Mandalay Bay) , Neon Museum, Golden Gate downtown, Don't forgot to visit Bellagio Hotel/Casino (the Strip at Flamingo). Also try to get around by Shuttle bus as its the cheapest as well. At NewYork you must visit Madame Tussaud’s wax museum, Ellis Island and New York Skyride.
I only have best knowledge for these twos. About rest I am sure you'll be getting good advice from fellow TPs.
