I've booked a two week island hopper pass which I'm very excited about!
Darren-it's unclear how much time you have in total.
And do you mean do a circumnavigation or trekking in the highlands?
What time of year?
Depends on what other islands and how you plan to travel between them. The easiest and cheapest way is by cargo ship, but that can take more time than you'd think.
If you're looking for good hiking, Taveuni is a good spot. As long as you're not there during rainy season.

I've been to Fiji 3 times have never seen or heard of these inter island cargo ships.
Now Ferries there are a few here and there Yes but cargo ships-No.
The simple fact that many Fijian Islands are within sight of other islands and thinly populated precludes the need for large or even medium sized inter island ship cartage.
Frequent air flights and relatively cheap rates for cargo are another reason the cargo ships as envisioned don't exist.
I took a cargo (yes, cargo) ship this summer. It was great! It's how most Fijians travel between whatever island they live on and VIti Levu. It's dirt cheap, but you just have to find out when one is going to whatever island you want to visit. Most of the smaller islands have at least one cargo ship per month. Sleeping on the top deck was the best night's sleep I've had anywhere. They had a bunk room, but I opted for open air. Many of them also have a covered deck.
