[b]Hi all... right now I am planning to travel to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia next year in Feb.
the question is should i go before or after the chinese new year...
Kota Kinabalu is one of my favourite places.So suggest not to miss visiting the palce and near by islands also.
When to visit? During the chinese new year , the ticket prices and of that hotel rooms might be high and so suggest you to visit after the new year. Also you will have less crowd and easy in everyway.

before i go or upon arriving in kota kinabalu?

Kota Kinabalu can be seen by a leisurely walk. When you walk around the city, you can see so many things. there is flea market every sunday i guess(not sure but pls check).
To visit other islands near by, suggest you to see the brochures available with tourist office. Since there are many islands around, you can see which interests you more. So in my opinion no need to book in advance.
Regarding water sports, you can decide after you have decided the island to which you intend to go .
There is Kustoms(Customs) office (in Kota Kinabalu) near which there is a kind of tourist office where you can check the details of all islands , prices, schedules of boats, etc etc etc.. Incase you wish to spend a couple of nights in any one of the islands, it would be refreshing and relaxing too. These details also can be obtained there.
