well, at times that I have no friends or relatives in a certain place, some of my friends would suggest staying in a host family. well, it is kinda like staying in a hotel, except that for some, you have to help out with the chores or something. it is cheaper and it is more comfortable and safe...

I study in Italy and I currently live with a homestay family.
Keeping in mind that there will be different types of families opening their homes to students: single parents, childless seniors, single professionals, etc. I live with one retired elderly lady. I like it quite a bit because she is sweet, attentive, and cares about us students. Two other students live in my flat with me. It's nice because I'm soaking up more of the language by practicing my Italian with her, don't know if language is a factor in your situation or not but that's a big advantage of living in a homestay. Also, I don't worry about buying cleaning supplies, toilet paper, or culinary/cooking items, everything's already here and I only have to share it with 3 other people. Also, I would definitely say it is a more comforting feel and of course you can immerse yourself in the culture more. Just my 2cents! I've never heard of "snip", I study with EF, Education First. Hope you can make the choice which works out best for you!
