Me and a mate are arriving in sydney on the 27th of jan(traveling the east coast for 5 months),we have booked a week in the hostel named BASE!Just want to know any info on the hostel,e.g how far away is it from sydney airport,is it close to the action(shops,bars &nightlife,tourist attractions etc)?Also wandering where people are traveling after sydney,as we have not really planned a route,we was just gunna go with the flow lol,is this a mistake not to plan your trip?
Assuming there's still only the one then it's very central (there's a map on that linked page, as well as Google Streetview if you want to check out how it looks around there) It's right around the corner from Darling Harbour and Town Hall (Station). The Opera House is probably about a 10-15 minute walk, and Central Station about 5-10. To get there from the Airport, take the train or shuttle and just hop out at Town Hall.

I stayed there a few years ago and as Sam says it's very central, close to many of the attractions and nightlife etc, and is a decent hostel.
There are various options for travels onwards from Sydney and where you go would largely depend on what you're interested in and how much time you have.

Just to echo what people are saying that its very central, also when I booked there I was staying for a week and they run a free transfer service from the airport to the hostel if booking for a week or more.
Most people I met there had a vague plan to travel the east coast but were just seeing what happened. You will meet plenty of people with similar ideas to yourselves and just leave when they feel ready.
