in Venice, is it ok to stay in Lido island?

hi Everyone,

If I remember correctly, last ferries to and from Lido leave the city at around 2200PM, so another location would allow for more flexibility. Check to make sure.

Lido is a cheap option, but note that when you stay on the Lido you need to a tourist travel card to get to the main island and back. And it takes about 40 min to get to the main island. Some people get sick on the boat. It can also be very cold because of the wind.

The prices for the tourist travel card:

* 16,00 € - 12-HOUR TRAVELCARD
* 18,00 € - 24-HOUR TRAVELCARD
* 23,00 € - 36-HOUR TRAVELCARD
* 28,00 € - 48-HOUR TRAVELCARD
* 33,00 € - 72-HOUR TRAVELCARD
* 50,00 € - 7 DAYS TRAVELCARD

I would recommend staying on Murano instead. I love the Locanda Conterie (www.locandaconterie.it) and it's very affordable. Purchase a vaparetto pass and you are set. Murano is simply lovely!

I had always felt that booking in advance makes Venice affordable.
There is nothing like staying in Venice and enjoying its air in the night.

If affordability is a concern, Mestre is a good option as one can travel by train to Venice and back.
Or even by any public transport.

A lot of people seem to stay in Lido. But I found quite a cheap hotel off a side street near St Marco's. Can't remember the name though! It's worth having a good look round before you book.

My advice would be in Venice main island or Mestre, for ease and convenience of moving around. Advance booking does help in locating reasonably priced accommodation. You can visit the other islands such as Lido as day trips from the main island.

Mestre and Marghera, on the mainland, are only 8 km (5 mi) away from Venice island/town and easy reachable by public transport. Both areas have excellent train and motorway connections and are in short distance from the airport. Lido lies "beyond" Venice and, depending upon where one is staying, has a longer and more complicated connection to/from Venice town. But it has the better entertainment!

thanks everyone for your insights. I've decided to stay within the island near the sta lucia station
