This December, we are planning to visit the Grand Canyon like what I did 3 years back, but this year we want to stay around for a day or two unlike last time where we were there for just about 2 hours, as we had it as a side trip from Las Vegas.
Shame you're tempted to go back a second time to see the same canyon.
Ever considered, just a few hours south - The Copper Canyon in Mexico? It dwarfs the G.C. and is so much prettier.
I've done both and the C.C. is most definately the 8th wonder of the world.
Oh I'm coming back not because I'd like to take a second look but it is for my wife and a cousin who has never been to it. Plus it will be part of our one-month US tour. If it weren't for them, I'd rather see the east coast of the US.
But I'll take note of that just in case we get another opportunity to fly back in the Americas and see Mexico which I'd love to visit one day. Thanks man.

Other things to see in the areas not far from the Grand Canyon are:
(1) Sedona (red rock canyons)
(2) Lake Powell (one of the world's largest man-made lakes--and a gigantic natural rock bridge--Rainbow Bridge)
(3) Monument Valley--site of many of the old cowboy movies made by John Wayne and others; and about a day away to the east is
(4) Santa Fe, New Mexico--the oldest state capital in the US--and one of the four oldest cities in the US. It is famous for its artists, its wonderful southwestern cuisine, Indian jewelry; and historical and wonderful adobe architecture. It is celebrating its 400th anniversary this year.

Just Mexico in general. I endlessly loved it. They know how to party on a Saturdy night a million times better than in L.A. Oh and it's just so much cheaper. Mexico City (I believe the world's most populated city, although I might be wrong) is mad during the day and after dark check out the thousands of excellent cheap restaurants. Watch out for the chillies though - if you don't do chilli, as I don't. I didn't read the menu properly and ended up with a plate of something that resembled battery acid. What a bigga mistaka maka. Gotta be the hottest chillies in the world - surely.
The whole country sent me into another dimension as far as travelling is concerned.
Car hire.. That was mad too. We got a little Fiat something of other. There were more dents on it than dead flies on the bonnet. Just great fun though.
Taking the main coastal road south from Tijuana was a treat. Some of the loveliest beaches you'll ever see.
@Calcruzer.. thanks for the list.. I appreciate it... hmm.. aside from looking at the views of the Grand Canyon, what other activities may be done within the park?
@flyingbob... well i sure hope i can have that chance one day to see Mexico as well specially with the ties that bonded Acapulco and Manila since the 16th Century... and with the similarity of our cultures... and well I don't think I'll have a problem with a crowded city as Manila is itself a very populated metropolis..
The Canyon in December will be cold. Are things open then? I'm not sure about that. If so you simply must do the helicopter ride from the South Rim over and back. One of the coolest experiences of my life.
Last time I was there it was around the 2nd week of December and it is indeed cold with some snow around the area and we were able to go over the viewing areas... I'm just wondering if aside from that, is there any other thing to do there? is it worth to spend the night there?
Again if the stuff is open I'd strongly suggest spending the night. We stayed at the Bright Angel Lodge on the South Rim and I'd highly recommend it. The "cabins" are just simply hotel rooms with bathrooms, tv etc. There was nothing quite like taking a drink and walking up to the rim to watch the sunset.
