Hi all, well I had to change my plans a bit. I'm off in December 1 months before my Visa expires Anyway, I have just booked my hostel for when I land, and was wondering if anyone else had trouble booking places to stay over Christmas? I was going to book the whole month of December, but when thought I might meet people, and then my plans would change.
My gut feeling says / aren't going to be the kind of full that Sydney hostels are during Christmas/New Years, and I haven't seen (m)any threads about it here through the years like you do for Sydney accommodation. Then again, if you already have an idea of where you will be spending those two weekends in particular, I probably wouldn't wait much longer with booking them, leaving the rest of the month for 'winging it'...
Good Idea, I suppose most hostels are close togeather in the city. But I think ill book them 2 weeks over Christmas
Bay of Islands, the Coromandel and Mount Maunganui are popular destinations over Christmas (at least for the locals), and might be booked solid. I remember not being able to stay in Whitianga for Christmas back in 2003, as I was too late with booking.
Almost anywhere on the South Island also needs to be booked a couple of days in advance between Christmas and late February, or you'll be looking around for a long time for that one remaining empty bed, but I don't think Christmas itself is particularly bad there.
