well I have a flight booked for labor day week and I'm travelling with a friend who is already planning way too much for my liking.

The weather in early September should be great in Seattle or Vancouver. Outdoors activities will be enjoyable. Have fun.
They also have a great Japanese gardens area on the west side of Lake Washington--and then there is the Space Needle, the Experience Music Project (EMP), the ferries to the San Juan Islands 90 miles north of town, the area of Kirkland, the nightlife and restaurants along the Puget Sound area, akai beach in West Seattle, watching a professional football game (the Seattle Seahawks) in the stadium on the south side of downtown, and boating on Lake Washington and Lake Union (one of the nice boat tours goes by all the homes of the rich people in town--including Bill Gates).

so seattle was ok. it rained a lot. I walked up a lot of hills. I went to a mariners game and bought a cliff lee mariners shirt. I ate a lot of seafood. that's about all I have to say about seattle.
I then took a train up to vancouver and immediately regretted not spending my whole trip up there. Vancouver is one of 3 cities in the world I immediately fell in love with. I went in early sept and it was 85 and sunny the entire time I went to the beach. I didn't think it was going to be that warm. The nightlife there is great. the landscape is beautiful. Stanley park is great. But then..
I had to go back to seattle and meet a friend to go to olympic national park. We go to a cabin by the beach, but we need food so we drive to the nearest town. A town called Forks. Not being a 15 year old girl I had no idea that Forks is the town were they shot the twilight movies. It's weird there twilight everything. I don't want to talk too much trash, but good god we were there on the day that they were celebrating Bella's birthday! THEY WERE CELEBRATING THE BIRTHDAY OF A FICTIONAL CHARACTER! we went to a bar for the event and and.....wow! that's all I can say
so all in all, it was decent. and I definitely have to go back to vancouver in the summer and in the winter. It's probably the coolest city I've been to in North america.
Next time you visit Vancouver consider also taking 1 day to go visit Victoria. It's not like Vancouver I admit--but it has a very European flavor that a lot of people like.
P.S. Sorry your trip to Seattle wasn't more fun--but it sounds like Vancouver was mostly better than Seattle because you visited Seattle on a rainy day and Vancouver on a warm, summer-like day. Also, Vancouver definitely has a better downtown than Seattle--and it sounds like this was the area of each city you visited. I'm not trying to downplay how nice Vancouver is--because it's great and extremely scenic--but in my view, Seattle is better than you make it sound.
