I am looking into getting a travellers cash card and loading it up with australian dollars before i come out in October. I dont know too much about them other than they seem safer than carrying cash and aslo the exchange rates seem better.
I am currently looking at the travelex australian dollar card which looks ok but dont really want to order it and load it up before i know more about it. Can anyone help give me more info about them or are there any recommendations of which card to order?
Thanks
Hi, I used a prepaid card for my backpacking adventure last year, and it was so easy to use. It was so much safer than carrying cash as the cards all have Chip & PIN protection.
I think Travelex are the only one that do a Australian dollar card, but I know they can charge you a lot if you use the card in another currency (5.75% fee from what I remember), and you need to remember to cancel it when you stop using it otherwise they charge you a couple of pounds a month! So if you’re only going to Australia it is a good one to get, but if you’re going anywhere else as well the GBP cards from my Travel Cash and FairFX are supposed to be really good value. You can use them in any currency, and just get charged a small foreign exchange fee each time you use them so they are a bit more flexible. -snip-
Hope that helps
Radhika
