Rucksack Chain/Straps???

Hi

Over the course of a journey most of us will be taking stuff out then putting it back - meaning whoever has their eyes on it will know exactly where to look. So, at the risk of stating the obvious, keep money/passport/tickets/phones and ipods on you at all times - just clothes and lesser stuff in the bag that wouldn't ruin it all for you if it was taken. Not just trains and buses either. Anywhere that people have sight and access to your stuff.

A cord would hinder someone though, if it wasn't obvious to whoever tries to move the bag. I think the most important thing is, is to find a simple security routine and stick to it, leaving everything else to insurance. Good luck.

While I don't know the state of travel in China, I spent a year in South America and was able to doze off, go to the bathroom, eat something in peace knowing my pack was safely locked up. I carried a PacSafe mesh lock that surrounded the bag. Sure someone could fiddle with a zipper and open it, but it would be hard and take a long time.

I totally agree with the other "stick like glue" suggestions earlier. One other thing, I traveled with a very small laptop, and NEVER took it out execpt when I had a room to myself (a treat once a week) when I processed digital photos and wrote in my travel journal. My point, NO ONE knew I had it on me, thus reducing fears of someone going after it.

Happy and safe travels!
