Where to leave your passport & additional cash?

Heading to Vietnam in couple of days. I am wondering if it is a requirement to leave your passport behind with the fronk desk people? I don't really feel safe leaving behind with the front desk people. What about addtional cash? Will you carry it in an undergarment pouch or lock it inside your backpack or leave it with the front desk people?

I left my passport with the front desk people....asked for a receipt...it was fine...no hassles! have a copy of your passport..just incase...!

Hi Sky
It all depends on the accommodation some places don't keep your passport others keep it overnight so go with the flow, always have a photocopy of the PP but kept in your money belt. Yes have a money belt under your clothes it's a pain but if you don't have a security box that's all you can do. The cards debit and credit you are using don't keep them all in the same place, if your wallets lost you're in trouble this happened to our friend and we had to fund him for three months.
If you use Internet banking use good hotel business services there is more chance of this being a secure line than your local Internet cafe, you can't be careful enough with your funds. Some countries have libraries which allow use for free.
Best of luck
Jean

Oh forgot to say
Vietnam is a dream for travelling in, there are overnight sleeper coaches very clean you take your shoes off when you enter, don't book a seat near the toilet though. hundreds of travel agencies happy to sort our your requirements. HCMC has 6,000,000 motor bikes so watch out, all the coastal towns are worth a visit. Take advice about malaria from your healthcare professional. Go have a few days in Halong Bay a magical place.
Enjoy
Jean

Thanks all for the advice & replies! =)
