Renting a car in Israel and driving isn't complicated. I can't remember who we rented from but it was one of the bigger car rental agencies Maybe Dollar? it was the cheapest we found when we were in Tel Aviv.

It's such a small country that any of the companies are probably fine - so look into deals and see what you can get.

Hi,

I rented a car last November in Jerusalem from Eldan Car Rental, i think they are one of the bigger outfits, they have depots around the country. Rates were very good, about € 20 a day, and i dropped it off at Ben Gurion airport, unlimited mileage but it's a small country anyway. They also had a gps rental booth in their office. Had no problems, picked out dents etc, i still lost a hubcap but they didn't charge for it, all in all, pretty good experience, and you can book it online,

Hi! Rent a car in Isr is easy thing - u have plenty of agencies (also international, like Avis and also local). Prices are similar and more depend of lenth and conditions of rent, type of car and kilometrage then where u take the car. If you are on buget - better make some check-up online for advance.
Travel by car here is great - cause u have oportunity to reach everywhere and not b dependent of public transport. Isr is very little country and can b crossed in one day. At another side we are fully packed with all variety of historical and religous (all kinds of) sites and various natural wondes. Worse to see.
!!! What u should know for advance:
roads at general are in good conditions. For road #6 you should pay, others are free of charge. Road signs r in Engish and Hebrew, often also in Arabic. Avoid drive in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Haifa - big cities with ver difficult orientatinon. And the last thing - driving culture here... how would i tell it.. mmmm.. it's a bit alike jungle. Usually Italian drivers are called by names - so, i may say they are angels in comparation to Israelies. So, b patient and extremelly concentrated on what is going around.

Hi Vanessa. I searched for avis rates - - and I think it's cheaper than Eldan. My destination is in Tel Aviv, do you think it's more convenient to get a public transportation than renting a car? And is it easy to get a parking in Tel Aviv? Thanks.

For Tel Aviv car is a trouble! dont do it. TA (Tel Aviv) isn't big, acceptable with public transport (buses with AC) - cost 6 shekel (about 1,2$/ 1EU) for 1 trip or 13 shekel (~3$,2,5EU) for whole day in Tel Aviv and around ("Big Tel Aviv") taxi inside TA would cost 25-35shekel, depends a distance. Driving in TA is unnoying and parking even worse then driving. I'm not kidding.
If you want to enjoy your visit (TA is the cooliest place in Israel!) - dont even think to drive in Tel Aviv. BTW, same is relevant for Jerusalem and Haifa.
!!! Public transport shut up (completely!) from Friday afternoon (~5pm) to Saturady evening ("awakes" ~21pm). So, during weekend only taxi and feet.
For seeing all the rest - u'd better rent car.
Avis is allright, they are big and serious company.
