overstay student visa Australia

Hi,

If you arrive at the airport having overstayed your visa you are likely to get a grilling from immigration and a ban on re-entering the country. For overstaying by one day it's unlikely to be a long ban. If you want to avoid this it might be worth getting a 'friend' to speak to immigration for some hypothetical advice on your situation, it's not as if you don't have a genuine reason or are trying to play the system....

Thanks for your advice.

I've read on the Australian immigration website that you get a ban from reentering the country (up to three years) if you overstay your visa by more than 28 days. Does this mean when I overstay my visa less than 28 days that I don't get a ban...?

I'm not sure what do do now, I don't feel like changing my flight but I don't feel like asking the Immigration office either...

After your response I read the details on the immigration site and it does say 28 days, so maybe you wouldn't get a ban. If it was me I'd want to try to check out exactly where I stood with immigration, but it doesn't look like the consequences would be too awful....
