The Pantanal

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I´m currently in Rio and was planning on heading to the Pantanal, however, a lot of the guide books i´ve read imply that it is too flooded at thsi time of year to visit. Does anyone have any advice? Also if anyone could recommend a good tour operator adn give me an idea of price tha would eb gerat too. Thanks.

Hi, in fact it it is flood season now in Pantanal. This year it seems it hit very bad the southern part.
It can be visited all year long, it's just very different during flood and dry season. I've been three times there always during the end of dry season, you can read something about my trips at -snip-. It is one of the most fascinating places I've visited. It is extremely beautiful when flooded, you just see it from a different point of view. Of course it's hotter and the mosquitoes are in their element but it's also the less crowded time of the year and the submerged landscapes are gorgeous.
I've always used -snip- as a guide and highly recommend him, he's very skilled, reliable and a nice person. Often booked out I'm afraid, but give it a try! Maybe he can give you some advice. You can try contacting some of the lodges directly too, on my blog you find the links to their websites. Regarding to budget it is not a cheap place, but it's worth every penny you spend. This is for Northern Pantanal, going from Cuiabà.
If you need any other info feel free to PM me!
Bye Claudia
