Travel to Philippines via Vietnam

My partner and I will be going to the Philippines for two weeks, as an end to our trip to vietnam.
I have done alot of research about the best places to visit and the best diving areas etc, but would like some real advice on the best places to visit, from OPEN MINDED travellers who have been themselves.

Puerto Princessa has given me a nice experience when I was in Palawan, if you will be visiting it don't forget to visit the underground river cave as it is an amazing experience. When are you planning to visit anyways? there are different times of fiestas in the country and it would be great if you will be able to witness one. the games, the foods and the activities are awesome... don't forget to visit Boracay of course, it is one of the popular beach destinations.

Hi.. El Nido(Palawan) have the best beaches in philippines. And not so crowded too... But its little costlier too(also depends on the season)... Peak season would be too much in terms of budget. Getting around palawan is not a easy thing. U can ride from Puerta princessa to El Nido.. But the roads arent that great and u might need ur own vehicle or rent one(There are some charter flights too direct from manila to El nido).

I have been to Undergound river(Palawan) and shouldnt be missed.

Boracay is great, but very crowded. I stayed at dave's(Its voted the best in many travel sites). Its economical and a nice relaxing place but not on the beach front.

You should try Batad rice terraces... great place. Lonely... check out for The Tappiyah waterfalls in Batad. when we went there.. we were the only ones in the falls. the best i have seen. (http://sivarmn.blogspot.com/2008/06/batad-heaven.html)
But im not sure, if the roads are still there with the recent cyclones that has hit those parts.

Mayon Volcano is good. U can do trekking there. Felt like forest kinda trek.

Heard cebu has great diving sites but I never been there myself.

Batangas, Subic Bay have some nice beach resorts.

Thank you very much for your recommendations, we have read about the underground rivers and are very keen on spending time there. We've decided to stay on the Island of Palawan and try to do as much exploring of the Isand as possible.

Philippines is a marvel of beauty and we wouldn't be doing it justice if we tried to fit everything in one go...

El Nido is supposed to be a lovely location so I will be trying that out too, though the hotels are indeed quite expensive.

If it is safe to get around in your own rental, we'd love to do this, however, if we cant perhaps we'll make friends with a localman and hire his services for the time were there....I'm sure there are ways.

Those waterfalls sound amazing, I will check them out too

Thanks guys.
