Anyone tell me if they have used bunac or something similar. I have a few questions though, did you enjoy it ? did you go with a friend ? and did you find it worthwhile in doing ?, is it expensive to do and could i do it myself cheaper

Whilst I don't necessarily disagree that there might be better/cheaper alternatives available, do you have any examples? The other big UK companies doing this are actually way more expensive than BUNAC, which is after all a not-for-profit, unlike most of the others in the industry...

Bunac states 'Not for Profit', a bit like the Co-op does as well. Come come now.

Im just wary of spending X amount of money and then finding that the support isnt there when i could possibly do it all myself for less,

Like the others have mentioned, it would help to know where you are thinking of going If it's Canada for example, I think you have to go with BUNAC (at least in the past the visa for working holidays in Canada was only available through BUNAC). If it's volunteer work, it might be a different story.
I actually am part-owner in two companies that are in this 'gap year' industry (in Norway and Sweden). Typically, yes, you would pay more than doing it all on your own. But you typically also save a lot of time and hassle and can have some extra peace of mind. We work with the same partners as BUNAC in some countries and one of the reasons for that is because those partners have years and years of experience assisting travellers that have just arrived in their countries, finding them work (or volunteer projects if that's the program) or being a shoulder to cry on. A couple of weeks ago, in Ghana, one of our partners spent 48 hours by the side of a bed of a very sick traveller from a European country for example. Support, like insurance, is often not valued unless you really have to use it though.
I actually quite like how Travel Works (similar type of organization), lists disadvantages of travelling with them on their '' page (scroll down to the bottom). Much of the same would apply to BUNAC.

oh well im not sure, it was an idea that a friend of mine had about appying for bunac, so they help to find people jobs then whether its volunteering or paid work
