hi, can anyone help me? My elderly in laws are arriving at heathrow with quite a bit of luggage and need to go to picadilly, w1. Going by rail or train is not an option due to the amount of luggage they have, and the fact that they are elderly, i really dont think they will be able to manage. What is the best way to get them from the airport to their hotel?
Ideally, a cab from straight outside the terminal. It will be expensive, but will involve the least amount of walking and inconvenience for your folks. It will be literally door-door and if they're staying in a good hotel in Piccadilly, the luggage will all be taken to their room and brought down again on their departure.
I mean, if they're coming into Heathrow from another country, then they've not worried too much about travel costs enough so far, for it to be of the greatest concern - have they? So another £30 or £40+ really is worth it to save any struggle.

I live just close to heathrow and would never take a black taxi into central london, these days it costs a minimum £50 + there is a fee per piece of luggage.
I have a look as I know there is a bus that goes between heathrow and victoria station. They could then get a cab for about £10 ish.

Personally I think your best bet is to book a minicab.
do the trip for £42, and you can call them with 10 minutes notice. seem to do it for £35 but are a bit less flexible.
As Shell says a metered black cab is going to cost you a bit over £50 bare minimum and is a little unpredictable.
Personally, I'd keep it simple and use a black cab.
Overall majority agreeing.... Get the taxi.
Yes more expensive, but if they're not able to do a train, then a bus is out of the wuestion too. The only options are a lift with someone or a taxi. A bit pricey but all done and dusted within the hour and no carrying or waiting about.
thanks everyone for your suggestions. I think i will look into either pre booking a minicab or getting them to get a black taxi. it seems the easiest option!
There's no need to pre-book at Heathrow - ever.
Take into account that LHR is the busiest international airport in the world. There are taxis of all shapes and sizes just waiting to have your trade outside - day and night, by the mile. If you have the good fortune to be there when your folks arrive - the fact that you've taken the time to make enquiries from other travellers, there's an outside chance that you can negotiate the rate with the cabbie. They'd rather get knocked down a quid or two and get the job, than lose it to another driver.
