Just started planning my Trip! Anyone else?

Hey guys,

Hiya Lyndsay

Im in a similar situation to you by the sounds of it! Im 24, newly single after 2 years and cant wait to get out travelling! Im also looking at going to oz next year but was thinking more September time to give it time to warm up abit, and more time to save!

I've only just started planning too and ur right it is overwhelming! I dont know how long I want to be gone for yet but my initial plan off the top of my head is spend a few months in oz incl xmas and new year, then on to NZ on (hopefully) a years working holiday visa. I went to NZ for 3 weeks a few years ago and its utterly beautiful! Id also love to do Fiji for a couple weeks inbetween there somewhere. Im going to try and be pretty flexible though, depending who I meet along the way and what happens etc.

I looked into oz intro as im going on my own too but think Im just going to be brave and go it alone... from what everyone says on here it appears quite easy to meet people and find hostels and work etc and a lot cheaper than going with a company.

I am also interested in doing a stopover in Hong Kong but like you am a bit unsure how safe it is on your own and being female

Im still only getting a feel of things too so let me know if you want to chat, also worried its a bit early to get planning as it's a year away but I figure you need to a bit to know what to budget etc

good luck!

I went Thailand - Laos - Vietnam - Indonesia - Singapore - Australia - New Zealand - Fiji and then back to Australia (where I am working out my visa)

All I would say about Oz is that, it is an extremely expensive place to travel and live! It really hit me hard and I was being as tight with cash as I could be. Sydney isn't exactly cold June time (the temperature is around 16 degrees I guess), but as not many places have central heating or double glazing, when the temperature dips at night you do feel it! It is just starting to pick up now, with temperatures hovering around 20 degrees.

If you've not been try and get to New Zealand as I think it is an awesome country and so beautiful as Lyndsay says, and I prefer it to Australia. Fiji is a must as well - my favourite place I have ever been - it is literally paradise.

Oh and definitely go to Vietnam and Cambodia, and whilst you're there it'd be a shame if you didn't visit Thailand, Laos and Indonesia. I absolutely loved South East Asia, so so cheap and so much culture and history to see. I spent three months there, but really wish I had spent more time.

Anyway travelling seems so daunting, but when you actually start doing it you realise it is pretty easy!

Hey Lyndsay,

You might be best arriving around Feb-April, working for a few months and spending Jun-August up north travelling. If you travel north of Brisbane after about October the weather is very humid and uncomfortable and stingers are more common in the ocean. There is also the chance of heavy rain and sometimes localised flooding.

How long were you planning on staying in Australia for?

I am in exactly the same boat as yourself. I am planning on going to Oz in June 2011 using ozintro this is because i am new to all this and it seems easier to go with them to sort my WHV and first weeks accomendation ect. I plan on staying in Oz for a year working in Melbourne or Sydney for 4-5 months to gain some extra money to fund my trip up the north coast and hopefully to Asia and Europe where i just hope to work myself around the world.

Have a look at www.workaway.info and www.helpx.net they are websites that advitise volentering work for free accomendation and in some cases food. I am looking in doing this to minimise the cost of my trip and spend as less as i can (and earn as much) to travel the rest of the world.

I am planning on doing this by myself aswell and feel a bit daunted by it all and i don't really know where to start. If you want to chat about anything just message me

Sam
