It is my great desire to move to France. I have lived in the USA my entire life, and now I am able to leave -- nothing holding me back, except I do have 4 cats, that I could never part with.
You might want to join up here They have good answers for what you are looking for. Well done on your decision to get out of the US for a while. It can definitely be a bit of a mind numbing place. Fox news, and CNN have a lot to answer for! But that unfortunately seems to have become the mentality of the US these days.

I think you read my mind regarding Fox and CNN. I wanted to be careful how I phrased it, but, I've got to get out of America -- I'm sick of it beyond words. There are things afoot that I'm finding difficult to cope with, maybe even frightening. The late comic, George Carlin, pretty well nailed it with amazing accuracy, and I agree with what he said.

A friend of mine moved to Paris (from New Zealand), and sent for her cat a few months later. Not sure of any details, but the cat is here and well! I think it was quite pricey though...
So not much help except to say it can be done!
I'm not sure if you've decided on L-R yet or not, but I live here and have gone through the process you are about to embark on with the French embassy. I'm also North American, which is FAR different from being a EU citizen, in terms of your right to live here. If you have any questions, just ask.
