Photography Mapping issues..

Hey guys. Great job on the new site! I think its awesome.. One thing I've noticed so far as i can't map any of my photos. I will only get a blue screen, and when I type in "Riverside, California" nothing shows up, and it doesn't recognize that I typed in the location... You may have already heard about this problem...But I couldn't find it on any of the other topics, so I thought I would bring it up..

What browser are you using? Not aware of this specific problem - it's likely to be something specific to your system.

Also, there is an alternative way to map your photos that will allow you to do a lot more at once - click on Map, then on the My Photos link that appears. You can shift-click a batch of photos at once and map them all. Only problem here is that there are some performance issues for people with a lot of photos. That is a problem we *are* aware of and is a high priority to fix. So if the photos don't load for you in that area, then that is the reason.

I'm not sure if this is something that was fixed earlier today, but I get up "Riverside, CA" when I type Riverside. Also just wanted to let you know that the blue screen is actually correct. Non mapped photos are being put in the middle of an ocean (zoom out to see this) by default I'm guessing this is lat=0/long=0.

Oh wow, also neat is if you have photos with location data 'built in', f.e. you can get the iPhone to insert this when you are taking photos, once you've uploaded them the data is automatically entered for you. Not that is neat!

This was indeed likely part of the fix today. Was holding up quite a few locations that one

By the way, on the geotagging - it's also possible to geotag your photos before uploading if you have some software that can do that. Then when you upload them, we *should* recognize the latitude / longitude and we'll automatically work out what place name to give that. Pretty nifty if you can be bothered

Hey I like the new style of the website but we are in countries where the internet connection is poor and is therefore also preventing the new map from loading to select the location of our photos. It would be great for us and I dare say a lot of other people who are uploading pictures on slow internet connections if we could opt for the old version to select the location of photos.

Thanks wayneanna

I assume you've been trying the version (ie. check the boxes of those that you want to change and then edit there)? Is the map that loads there also slow?

Hey all...

I still have issues when I try to edit a single picture location.. It says it saves my location, but doesn't.. However.. When I go to map, to map my photos, everything works great.. So obviously, that's the way to go.

Thank you for your time..Again, love the new site! Great job.

When you say it doesn't save the location, does it not save any location, or does it give it a name different to the one you typed in? The latter is actually intended and not a bug, and it is saving the actual lat/long correctly in those cases. However it's not very clear right now, and Peter and me agreed on a new layout for this earlier today to make this much clearer again. That new layout will also fix your issue wayneanna.

If it's not saving anything, then clearly that's a bug In that case, what browser are you using?

It doesn't save ANY location. I just uploaded two pix to try it again. I clicked on "view and update on map" I typed in Eagle River, MI nothing happened, so I saved it. It said: "Details Saved" I checked my photos, and it didn't save the location. I use internet explorer, windows, vista.

However, I have no problem mapping them from the map page...

So I'm thinking since nobody else seems to be having problems, that it's on my end, but since I can still get the desired result with the "mapping" page, I have no complaints..

Thanks again.

Rhombus
