SOLO JOINING SAFARI

this is an often asked question I know but i would love some constructive advise as i will be travling alone to Arusha what is best plan
check several safari companies to see if there is a spot for me or chat to punters at hostels to form a group and rent a vehichle--will be there mid October

If you are going on a first time safari, then it shouldn't be a problem to find a group to go with, as you probably won't have specific, hard to fulfil requests.

Personally, I just went around to a few of the companies until I found a company that had a safari leaving with a itinerary that I liked.

My take was that the costs will be about the same either way, so I don't think you buy much from a financial perspective.

You do get put with a random group of people by just tipping up to the safari companies, so there were a few of the folks that I liked (we ended up travelling on together to Zanzibar), and a few that I didn't get on with as well. Therefore, a benefit of finding people in your hostel would be that at least you could meet them all and find folks that you like to travel with.

Another benefit of finding a group is that you guarantee enough people. It didn't happen to me, but I heard of people who had safari trips delayed and delayed again until a full trip could be arranged. If you are on a timeline, that could be a concern.

One issue with finding a group of people at your hostel might be actually finding them. I found that many of the folks I met had already arranged safaris ahead of time.

Thanks Greg!!! Have investigated two companies via the web but only to gain idea of price and itinerary. Two places stand out for my preference to visit Serengeti plus Ngorongoro then whatever else. A 5/6 day budget camp safari fill my needs so thanks again

I did a 5 day of Ngorongoro, Lake Manyara and the serengeti. Very cool.

Enjoy.

Greg
