Do you want a tour that starts from Rio, or rather book a flight to Manaus (or other town/city) and have the tour started from there?
And the price: budget, top end?
Hi, thanks for your reply. I would fly elsewhere if necessary. Looking on the low budget side, but not the absolute most basic though if possible. What sort of range of costs am i looking at and is 1 week enough or would 2 be better?
thnaks again.
Most trips out of Manaus are about 3-5 days, so in total a week from Rio including airticket is enough time.
Can't really help you with the lower budget range. I did a trip to Mamirau reserve, about 1.5 hour by boat from Tefé, which is 1 hour flight or so from Manaus. It's not expensive for what you get, it's like midrange or so and everything is included. Just google a bit to see if you like it.
It's a sustainable development area and part of the official UNESCO site of the central Amazon, unlike the area around manaus which is overdeveloped and mostly not eco-tourism (although tour operators claim otherwise of course: lodge in jungle = eco. LOL).

There are very good tour operator in Manaus.
How ever..... Watch out: Book your expeditions only with an Agency.do NOT book with the TOUTS at Manaus Airport or on the Streets.
