Hi all,
Generally pay in Australia is 10% higher than in New Zealand, which is a reason there's quite a big migration of New Zealanders to Australia as they want to work there. (Of course, costs are 10% higher as well.)
New Zealand is by far the more beautiful country, and having four months of pure travel time there, without needing to settle in one place to work, would be a really good thing. On the other hand, Australia is much larger, and (over larger distances) more diverse, so four months of pure travel time there, without needing to settle in one place to work, would already barely be enough to cover a decent subsection of it.
It's a tradeoff either way. My personal choice gives this choice would be to do the solid stretch of work in Australia (ideally in Sydney or Melbourne, as I found these to be the most interesting cities to live in).
