Best place to live 2 months in CR and why?!

Hello.

Hey oxyjen , I'll be flying into san jose around the 3rd of january. I'm planning on staying about a month trying to find a place to live maybe, but other than that I plan on doing all the zip lining and bungee jumping I can get my hands on. In short I work in Afghanistan and I cant wait to let my hair down and kick back a little bit. there are a couple sites I don't know if you have checked out tripadvisor wealth of info there as well. From my research the pacific coast is for me where the east side is more of a Caribbean atmosphere. it really depends on what you're looking for and interests.
you can rent a car for like 20 bucks a day and get a gps roads are a little bit messed up. its cheaper to rent a vehicle then it is to pay a taxi. and when the time comes you can just drop it off wherever you want in costa rica. you just have to call and find a location. I'm flying into San jose and then heading to tamarindo I think centrally located from jaco and san jose. if your looking to rent i would google vrbo costa rica. its a renters site if you wanted to find a condo or villa to rent.
i have more info but this is short hand for now .

Costa Rica is not very big but has a tremendous variety of climate zones, which influence its population. My suggestion is to start from the Central Valley, not necessarily in San Jose but perhaps in the vicinity of nearby towns on the North side of the valley, such as Heredia or Alajuela (if you are not compelled to mix with "gringos" in Escazu or Santa Ana on the southern side). It all depends from what you eventually would like to experience.
Once you get the hang of the country and figured out the climate and temperature differences between one part and another (mountains or ocean shores), visit those areas within a few hours of travel from the Central Valley.
I suggest to visit the InBioParque in Santo Domingo de Heredia (15 car minutes North of San Jose) at the beginning of your stay to obtain an overview of what the country is all about and has to offer.
Take it from there and enjoy your stay!

If I were you, I'd go down to Playa Flamingo, or some other quiet Pacific beach. Bring a big bag of novels to read, lots of good tunes, rent a little place near the water, and just be a beach bum.

BTW... SO jealous! ;-)

I've actually quit my job and moved to Costa Rica three years ago. The beach towns are fun but a little more expensive than living in the middle of the country. Since you are 24, I would recommend the Caribbean side, Puerto Viejo just because it is so much fun. If you are going to the Pacific side, Tamarindo or Playa Flamingo are great too.

Safe travels, I visited here and had to come back. Now I make it my home. I write about the cost of living and funny things that have happened to me here at my blog:
-snip-

I would suggest Quepos....The exact same question is on this page. Check it out. Welcome to the fold.

I would suggest Quepos.....

Agreed

The other (Caribbean) side is something of a dump and I can't in good conscience recommend it to inexperienced travellers.
