Canadian landing in Australia Jan. 1, 2011

Hello all
I'll be landing in Sydney on Jan. 1, 2011 and would like a travel companion(s) if possible. This is my first time travelling by myself and I think it would be fun to meet up with some other like-minded travellers. I don't have any solid plans on where I want to go yet, just thinking about going wherever sounds good or if someone lese has ideas. Thinking about heading to Perth area for a job at some point. I'll be staying in Aus for about 6 months.

Hi Ruby, I am landing in Sydney on the 13thDecember and staying there all over xmas & new year. I dont have any solid plans yet either apart from like you, getting a job at some point and seeing as much as I can. Would also like to meet up with like minded travellers. Where do you plan on staying when you get to Sydney?

Richard.

Hi
I really have no idea yet where I'll be staying. I haven't done too much looking, perhaps I should get on that haha. Any suggestions? I have a friend who was supposed to look into it for me but I think she may have forgotten by now.

Well when I arrive I am staying at YHA Railway Square for the first week. A friend told me it is a good place to stay. Although I have no idea where Im gonna stay over xmas and NY yet as everywhere is booked. But I'll worry about that nearer the time!

I checked out YHA Railway Square, it looks like a really neat place! I think I've found a hostel called Asylum pretty close to Kings Cross. It doesn't sound too bad and decent price.

Ive heard about Kings Cross. It sounds like a pretty good place!! How are you feeling about travelling on your own? Nervous/excited? What kind of work are you going to be looking for when you get there?

Hi there

I will be in Sydney from 2 January - 16 January for a short holiday from UK.

I was there last year on a working holiday visa for a year and loved every second and so coming back to celebrate my 30th. I am coming on my own.

YHA Railway Square seems like a good place and all the YHAs I have stayed in have been brilliant. However, I would stay away from hostels at Kings Cross if you haven't already booked it. Not many of them are very nice. I suppose it depends on what you are looking for because I'm sure you'll meet people and have fun there (I am talking about the cleanliness).

The best ones are in the city centre. I am staying at WakeUp, which is one of the best hostels I stayed in during my time in Australia

If any of you need any further advice then just let me know

I got my room booked today at The Jackaroo Kings Cross!! Soo excited and yes nervous too haha. As for work I was thinking something with harvesting but I just don't know yet. I'll figure out what's available and what I feellike doing once I get there.
I'm most nervouse about meeting people and not just being on my own, because I'm a little shy when it comes to meeting new people.

It sounds to me like harvest work is fairly easy to get. I think most people that are travelling alone are nervous about meeting people but from what it hear there are loads in the same position so I dont think there is much to worry about in that respect. Im not really shy but Im not always the most outgoing person so i have the same worries! You can always drop me a message though, I'm always happy to have a beer or 2.

Sounds great The Jackaroo fell through for me so I believe I will be staying at G'day Backpackers, which doesn't sound the greatest but I'm low on options haha. I'd love to get to know a few people on here and meet up with them in Oz, sounds like a good idea to me.
