We just wanted to put a post on. We are wanting to travel around Europe and wondered if any one could give us some advice. We are only just begging to look into it now and really need as much advice as we can get from people who have actually done it themselves. We are looking to travel particularly around France, Italy, Croatia, Germany, Czech rep, and Poland. We are wanting to go to experience the different cultures. Would any one recommend any specific places within these countries? What would you recommend with food, eating in or out? We are hoping to save enough money so we dont have to work, how much money would you reccomend to take for a 3 month trip? Thanks to any one that could help.
That's a pretty general question (nothing wrong with that) so here's a pretty general answer:
1. Unless you're really passionate about a specific thing, Breweries/Galleries/Museums blur together pretty quickly. You can see a lot of history and culture just by walking around and observing.
2. Talk to locals! In an appropriate setting of course. It takes a little courage but you'll usually get the best info/advice on where to go from people at the bar- and most people love talking to travelers.
3. How much $ you need really, really depends on a lot of things- What kind of things do you want to do? How shabby of a hotel room are you willing to put up with? How much beer do you drink every night? Ect Ect. But don't run right up on your budget- have enough "emergency money" to buy you an exit flight or overpriced hotel if you find yourself in dire straits.
Also I bet you'll get more helpful answers if you ask more specific questions...
For France, I highly recommend spending time in Paris, even a week, as well as seeing Lyon, the area around Mont Blanc, as well as Provence. For Italy, I recommend time in Rome, as well as in Tuscany, Cinque Terre, Umbria, the area around Naples, as well as Venice and Bergamo. For Germany, I highly recommend Bavaria, as well as the Black Forest, and the area around Trier (Mosel/Rhine).
To experience the best of both worlds when it comes to food, I would recommend a combination of eating out and making some of your own meals. If you make some of your own meals, you'll not only save money, you'll also experience shopping in local markets and meeting some of the locals.
As has been mentioned in another post, how much money you need will depend on a lot of things: what type of accommodations you'll be staying in, what kind of restaurants you frequent, whether or not you rent a car, what season on the year you'd like to travel, etc.
