Accommodation in London

Hi,
I'm an Aussie who is travelling to London at the begining on March 2011. I was wondering if anyone knows any good areas to live in London. I was looking at sharing a house preferably with Australians. I will be there for 4 months and then I will be doing a 3 month tour of Europe.

Hi Lisa

If you're looking to share with fellow Aussies, South/West London is for you

Areas like Clapham, Putney, Wandsworth and Wimbledon have a big Antipodean community...

They are close enough to Central to get a quick tube ride in, but far enough away to not have crazy rent prices
(although bear in mind London is expensive in live in. full stop!)

Good places to look for flat shares are websites like gumtree or roombuddies

good luck!

Second what Lucyloo4 says - I live in Battersea / Clapham area and hear tons of Aussie and Kiwi accents. I would say that a good 50% of the people standing on the platform at Earlsfield heading into the city for their morning commute are probably from down under. Shepherd's Bush is another big community of Antipodeans.

Really, though, there are lots of places to find good rooms around London. I would start by trolling some of the websites and see what different areas and price ranges give you in terms of quality and size of room. Check out , and for listings. I've personally had good success with Moveflat, but Gumtree probably has the most adverts.

Greg
