Hi.

Hi

You can look here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7k_p786BAYI

Additional note to the webmasters : The search function in this website is not working well. My own thread is missing in the result search when enter my entire topic.

It is good to know that you are planning for a trip to Lhasa - Kathmandu..... I wish you all the very best for your up-coming trip.

It is true that there is a direct trail service from Beijing to Lhasa. I don't know much about the this subject as I have not been there but if you need any assistance I can recommend you a good local company so they can assist you for further...

Please let me know if you want that...

Have a good time.

Raj - Kathmandu.

Hi Kate,

you can find useful info on this website: http://gogosc.com/enly_tours.asp

most tour operators that organize trip to tibet and nepal border are based in beijing, xining, chengdu. expect to pay app gbp350-400 in a group, including permit, guided tour and train tickets. you can find operators in major hostels in these cities.
count a good one week to find others to create a group and arrange all paperwork before you can start.
trips are available only from spring to autumn - during winter train to lhasa is not running.

hope this helps.

Hi Kate,
I hope this information has not come too late but the following websites I found quite useful.

www.chinatrainguide.com

The function allows you to put in the Cities you wish to travel to and from and then gives you a time table of available trains/departure times/costs.

There is an overnight train that runs from Beijing to Lhasa - it takes approximately 44 hours and costs from 609 - 998 RMB dependant on class of travel.

The below link show photos of the different classes of tickets.

http://www.beijingchina.net.cn/transportation/train/train-to-xian.html

Anyways hope you find this information helpful - I will be using this site for my travels around China in Jan/Feb.

Cheers,
Lee
