Booking hostels

Evenin all, my trip is booked for 1st May and it's my first trip......
I am wondering if anyone can give me advice on hostels/hotels/camping etc...
Do I book before or do I wait until I arrive and just stumble across places and book as we go??

Hey Lea,

Different people will give you a different answer on that question depending on their preferences, or how they are travelling that trip.

My personal preference is:
When travelling alone for fun, maybe book first night or two, and just take the rest as it comes.
When travelling alone for work; book the whole trip up front.
When travelling with family on a short trip; book in advance.
When travelling with family on a long trip in one place; book the first week or so in advance, then find a place to stay upon arriving.

Obviously there are variations that can lead to booking less or more in advance, specifically really busy times of the year. For example if you are thinking of spending NYE in Sydney, you might as well look into booking it now already

Oh, if you are considering booking in advance, Travellerspoint has a pretty extensive collection of !

I tend to book the first few days of my trip and then basically as I go plan it and book a few days ahead of when I plan to go. I used to just turn up, but a few times I found that I hadto settle for an expensive hotel instead of a hostel or sleep on the streets.

Thanks guys, think I will book for a few days before and a few days after every flight and the rest can be the adventure.....
