6 weeks SEA ???

hey fellows, I am planing my trip to Sout East Asia and try to figure out how much time I gonna spend in each country. First of all, I just have time between the 12.1.12 to the 23.02.12. Been traveling for 14 months already and have to go home for important reasons. So I just want to do the typical travel of SEA like Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. I am going to start in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and will do all the way up to Bangkok. Then I'd like to go in the north and will pass the border to Laos. From the north of Laos I want to travel to the very south and pass the border to Cambodia. And then again I'd like to travel up to Vietnam and finally arrive in Ha Noi where I have to get my flight back home. The flight home goes over Bangkok.

Yes, it's possible to see it all (poorly) in 6 weeks that way. Another option would be to fly from KL up to Laos and start there (through Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam) - seems to me that would be more reasonable giving you more time to see and not be too rushed. Surface travel in Indochina is quite slow, and often somewhat dangerous (wait till you see how they drive in Vietnam!) You don't mention money at all, but there is quite a difference between the highest (Malaysia) and the cheapest (Cambodia and Laos). The most aggressive is Vietnam - do your homework reading before you attempt Vietnam. You don't really need a guide, but local tours are educational and fun. You will find so many other travelers about, that you will probably want to tag along with your new found friends. Stay off those motorbikes - seriously, they drive like the world is ending at noon in Vietnam!!!
