Hi all, just a quick footwear question!
Seems to me much depends on you, and not the shoe or sandal. I travel about the same way with a smaller pack + shoulder bag. Actually, I wore Timberland sandals last year in Vietnam, and I also walk constantly, and I'm on the large size. When I got home, my feet were killing me! I think I just expected too much from sandals - quick to put on, but very little support or padding. Now I only bring my New Balance hikers that I've reinforced with "work" quality gel insoles. Yes, I had other shoes with me in Vietnam, but sandals are too easy to wear, and that's how I almost became a cripple!
They're probably just fine if you're young and of average weight and size, and you switch off shoes to sandals on a regular basis.
