I'm about to embark on a trip just before university starts up, and I'm looking currently looking for offline maps. I was just looking for advice on what one(s) I should use. What features do you guys look for in an offline map app?
Thanks!
Hey mate,
I've got an app called 'Maps With Me'. It's not too expensive and you download the countries and areas that you want.
Hi elliotjr,
You could also give citymaps 2 go a shot if youi're using an ipad or iphone (they might have an android app too). Has crowd sourced information that might be pretty useful as well.
I personally look for a map program that has GPS without utilizing data roaming. This allows usage internationally. Also important is the level of detail and accuracy.
I think it's about 5 bucks or so.
Thanks for the suggestions guys, I downloaded a bunch of free versions and tested them out myself. City Maps 2 Go seemed pretty decent actually, but Pocket Earth -snip- looked a lot nicer, anyone used pocket earth? Not sure whether to go ahead with that one.
Thanks a heap!

Hi,
I have been using maps with me on my ipod touch 5 and it has saved my ass several times during my travels!
I wouldn't want to mis it!
Good luck
Tom
I use a trick with google maps -
You just zoom in to the level you want to be able to see offline, type "ok maps" in the search bar, and it caches it for later use. Pretty awesome and has saved me in the middle of nowhere without service!
Obviously an app specific to your needs would probably suit better, but this does in a pinch!
Here's a WIRED article that explains, in case I was unclear:
