BA Strikes

For those who are not aware, in the last few days British Airways cabin crew have voted for a 12 day strike begining on December 22nd and set to last till Jan 2nd ... this is expected to effect only Heathrow, London airport.

The strike may yet be called off.
BA have taken out a court injuction (to be heard shortly) against UNITE, stating that the ballot was not legal and may be null and void.
Watch this space.

sure is a wait and see moment, but i very much doubt the court injunction will stop the strikes, it may possibly delay them, ... BA's grounds for court action are ''irregularities'' ... most news channels are suggesting it'll fail.

I really don't see how striking at this time of year is going to strengthen the workers' case. It just turns customers against the company (not good for your long time job stability, that), in addition to really making management extra upset. Add on top of that the fact that BA is not doing particularly well, and it's a bit of a recipe for disaster...

I honestly see this going the way of American Airlines and United Airlines a few years ago. Though during different years, the pilots (supported by the flight attendants) for one airline and the flight attendants (supported by the pilots) for the other chose to strike during the holidays. Both strikes happened during down years for those particular airlines. Both were resolved in a very timely manner to avoid the type of situation BA employees are hoping to create. I can't imagine that BA would not follow suit (the way AA and UA did) and resolve this issue just before "crunch time". I don't know - I'm speculating...

It's a "grand" plan but it usually only brings just enough concessions to keep everyone happy for the holidays. (Meaning employees and travelers alike.) I will be surprised if the strike takes place.

The judge has sided with BA, and the strike is off for now. If there'll be a new ballot for a strike, that strike apparently wouldn't be able to start earlier than mid-January or thereabouts.

Im safe!

Ohh and im gonna be an extra pain in the ass on my flight now, just becuase of what could have been!

You're not safe yet. The BA baggage handlers are holding a strike ballot shortly that could still screw it all up.
I say fly budget and change en-route.
Put the greedy ones out of a job. God save the queen (well in a manner of speaking, fingers crossed, white rabbits)
