Miami

So im heading to Miami on jan 6th ... providing BA dont extend thier strikes!

Get to the game at least 2 hours before. if you can't find any tickets anymore, you should fins some scalpers.it may be a little bit more expensive but if you really want to watch the game then its worth while, or, reserved your ticket online in advance.

In terms of the game mate I would recommend trying to book tickets in advance. When me and my mate were in Philadelphia this summer we wanted tickets for a phillies baseball game. I know for baseball games if people dont turn up to collect tickets from the box office on the day of the game then they resell them at face value. I presume they may do this for NBA games too although im not certain of this.

However in our case it was a complete sell out so our only option was to get them off a tout outside the ground. We ended up paying $35 for tickets that were worth $15! Although, I must admit we did not regret this as the game was amazing and it was a great experience. Back to the point though and I would advise to try and book in advance if possible to avoid disappointment :D

Enjoy the trip and post how it goes as I'm considering miami next year.

So im heading to Miami on jan 6th ... providing BA dont extend thier strikes!

Was hoping for alittle info on some issues i have ...

Ive decided to stay in the south beach area as i hear its the 'place to be' ... was wondering if there is a stand out hostel which i shouldnt hesitate to book into? ... kinda like the 'Big Apple Hostel' in NYC ... prime location, friendly budget etc ...

Also on the day i land the Miami Heat are playing the Boston Celtics @ the American Airlines Arena, ... whats the likelyhood of me purchasing a ticket on the day of the game? ... & where's the arena located from the south beach area?

Finally ... whats the cheapest way to get to south beach from the airport ... i land @ a sensible mid morning hour ... certain buses i need to hit up?

Any help much appriciated!

hey there guys.

I 've visited miami a few months ago, so lets start:

south beach is very wide so if you stay somewhere around south ends of oceans drive or lincoln ave. you will be closer to the AAA. but it still takes 10 minutes of drive. you can take a cab( it will take araound 10-15 bucks plus tip) or wait for the bus( sth araound 2 bucks) . heat tickets start from 50 bucks.

chepest way from airport to south beach is always bus. it takes long by the way araound 40 minutes . and I am not sure, but maybe you should take the city shuttle first and then the bus from that stop to south beach.

ı hope these are helpful. enjoy your stay and manage yourself a few days in key west if you have time. it is like 10 times better than miami for me.

Thanks guys,. much appriciated - im really wanting to book tickets, but due to these damn BA strikes, im still not sure if im going to make the game, as its on the day i land (if i land that day!) ...

Can i just clarify that this is the correct way of myself getting the visa waiver i need to apply for b4 bording the plane?

Yeah thats the correct visa waiver site. You will find that you will be asked to answer the same questions at some point during the flight over to america and fill in a form in order to present it upon arrival. They then keep part of it and attach the other bit to your passport.

A few words of advice from someone who has been to Miami a few times.... It is a ghastly city at night in some areas. Get advice from the locals in your hotel as to where you should avoid. There are areas through the day that are nasty too but at night those regions just about, so we were told, treble in size.
Don't get me wrong we had a great time there and North Miami Beach is an OK place, but Miami is a dodgy city if you don't know where you're heading.

I just got back from South Beach today. I stayed at the Chesterfield Hotel for US$42+$15 resort fee/night (single with a king or two double beds)! Super cheap for South Beach. It's a small boutique hotel, nothing too fancy and a little noisy, but very good if you are considering a hostel-type place. They also have a free shuttle to/from airport. It's located at 9th and Collins Ave, two blocks from the beach. A lot of europeans were checking in when I was. They have a website with online reservations (the website says the resort fee is $10/day but it's really $15 now).

was always the place I stayed when i was backpacking. its in the south part of south beach. i took a bus to a game from there, but it was years ago. took almost as long as it takes to get the bus from the airport to the beach. And like the other poster said take time to get down to the keys and over to the everglades.

ahhh miami. Miami is overflowing with beautiful women. It's really just mind-blowing.

contrary to what someone else said, South beach is actually pretty small, it's really only good from 5th st - 14th street. Miami beach does extend pretty far north and the beach is nicer and less populated around 40th but it's kind of dull. it's nothing but hotels. I say get a shuttle bus to south beach. that way you don't have to think about where you are. and you'll be right in the middle of the action.

if you have a week there I really suggest finding a way out to the everglades and going on an airboat ride for a day. I rented a car and drove out there with a few friends. It's amazing, I'd say it's up there with the Great barrier reef in terms of just how big and awe-inspiring it is. It's really cool, alligators and swamp lands as far as the eye can see.

I drove around Downtown miami for a bit, I'm sure it's amazing if you can stay for a while but since I was only there for a few days, it really wasn't that much different from any other city.
