How long would you recommend to spend in Laos? I am thinking about planning a trip to Laos and maybe Vietnam. I spent 4 weeks in Cambodia last year and found that to be a good amount of time, although we did have a whole week a the beach...
Hi Bek-
A couple years ago during a trip mainly to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, I spent 4 weeks in Vietnam and about 5 weeks in Laos.
It depends what you want to do or see- but if you want to see both the north and south of Vietnam, you can easily spend 4 weeks and still not see everything. Hi-lights fro me were Hanoi, Sapa, Halong Bay, Hue, HoiAn, Mui Ne, HCM City, and the Mekong Delta. Lots of great sites, some good trekking in the north, great food . etc.
I travelled by land and came from Cambodia through Laos from the south-- Just loved Don Det and the 10000 islands and would strongly recommend it. Most people go to Ventiene, Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang- which are certianly worth a visit. I also enjoyed a couple days in Phonsovan, and especially loved hiking in the north- Luang Namtha, as well as a great trip for from Luang Prabang then heading north, up to Nongkiaw and Muong Ngoy.
It obviously depends on the time you have.. Peronally I think you could give 4 weeks to each... Of course in life if you only have 4 weeks total and want to see both countries you have to make choices...
