I don't think three grand is enough to get you from North America, through CA and halfway through South America, no. Not for two people. and that's a lot of ground to cover. I think you' bitten of more than you can chew, your eyes are bigger than your stomach, etc.
We're not really doing South America - just flying into Rio - So I guess my question is - is 3 grand and 3 months enough time/money for Mexico and the majority of Central America?! Or am I still being too greedy?!
Three grand and three months for CA is fine. It'll be tight, and you won't be having beer every night, but you can make it work. You don't NEED a beer every night, and much of the joy of the area is in the beauty outside of the little towns. Don't spend too much time in Belize or Costa Rica. They'd be your most expensive places
