Hi
Ok,
Try not to be offended by this, but please try and use the proper spelling for the locations, it's a pain for my eyes I thought maybe it was just once, but it's Chiang, Lao and Luang Prabang.
Mike
Tom,
Never been to Laos, but this should help with your transport questions.
Hi,
Get yourself upto Chiang Khong which is right on the border with Laos, and you can get a slow boat which goes to Luang Prabang.
A great experience with a mix of other backpackers and many locals making the same journey so is a great opportunity to meet new people at the same time as seeing some beautiful scenery.
Its quite a long journey and stops overnight in a small village in Laos which is powered by a generator (which turns off about 10pm), theres a couple of places there you can get a hot meal, but take plenty of food and drink for the boat otherwise you may end up very hungry.
If you do decide to take this option, prepare yourself for a long journey but a very fulfilling one.
Jay.
I have done the same trip as mentioned above, getting a transfer up to the border town to get the slow boat down to Luang Prabang. Even though this is a really long way of doing this trip and you will no doubt get a numb bum along the way, I would highly recommend the slow boat as the best way to travel into Laos from Thailand.
