Hi, just wondering if anyone has any information on the situation in Leh at the moment, we have flights booked from Delhi to Leh on 07/10/10, I have heard that Leh have been hit really hard by floods/landslides and this may be a stupid question but will we be ok to fly there by this time, I'm expecting the answer to be no but just thought I would check before I look into cancelling/changing our flights...
As you are aware, there were recent flash floods following a ‘cloud burst’ in Leh. Extensive damage to the telecommunication centre, homes and the district hospital has been reported but Leh airport is operational. The only amendment to DFAT advices is has an advisory that travelers seek information from local authorities on traveling conditions before entering the affected area.
Hope this help!
The answer is definitely NO... Leh is wiped out because of flash floods... Nothing left in Leh...No point in going there... go to Kulu, Manali instead...

Thats complete bullshit. "nothing left in Leh" what kind of idiot writes something like that? Show me where you have proof that nothing is left!?
I was in Sarchu about 200km from Leh when the cloud burst hit. I have friends there now. The cloud burst was in an isolated area and hardly affected the tourist area. What has happened is obviously the tourists have stopped coming. The road from Manali is still blocked from a landslide about 100km from Leh, and you have to take a detour at More Plains. This has added to tourists not wanting to go. The shop keepers are writing off the season and some have already closed shop and left for the season. But all is not lost, flights from Delhi have dropped to 4000rp to Leh to generate tourist traffic back to the area. And there's still a good month left of the season. The rainy season here in Manali is still full on, but we've done a puja the other day so should be in good shape in the next week!
You have to make a decision whether you want to be in an area that has just faced a lot of deaths, I think the toll is around 750 now. But if you do go, you'll be very warmly welcomed and probably have a great time.
Hi, I just left Leh a day before the cloudburst. I think you should definitely go Kate since by October I am sure things will be a lot better though it will be a long time before the people there fully recover from the loss of so many lives. Leh is a beautiful, beautiful place and it will be wonderful if you visit now since the Ladakhi people rely very heavily on tourism even more so now because of the flash floods destroying almost every other source of income for them. I think it will be safe for you to go in October. The people as was mentioned earlier are some of the nicest and I am sure you will have a really great time if you plan to go.
