passport renewal in foreign countries

1. have you ever renewed your passport overseas?

Yes, I renewed my British passport in New Zealand and it took around 4 weeks. Whether or not you can get extra pages before it expires differs between countries - with a British passport you cannot get extra pages put in (unfortunately!) but I believe with American passports you can.

I think it took about 4 weeks when I got mine renewed here in Norway as well... I'm pretty sure you can get extra pages put into a Dutch passport, but as Bex mentions, it's up to the actual country and their policies.

My reply is for Malaysian Passports

1. have you ever renewed your passport overseas?

No, I have not. But I know quite well the procedures and facilities available at Malaysian High Commisions, Embassies and Consulates. I also know someone who'd done it before.

2. how long does it take.

I know it depends on your country... I just want to compare.

Depends on which country you're in. For example, the Malaysian High Commision in London and in a few other countries can renew your passport on the same day. In most other countries, it usually takes two days to a week.

3. can you get extra pages on your passport, if its not yet expired, but you are ran out of pages?

No, there is no such thing available. Renewal of Malaysian passports basically means paying the full price and getting a new one.

I have renewed a Brit passport in Stockholm and Paris.

The new passports have chips and they can no longer be issued or extended by all British consuls.

All Brits resident in W Europe and ME must now renew by post in Paris.

It is very expensive compared to renewing in UK.

Full info :

Mine took 10 days, but others have experienced longer periods (Paris says allow 4 weeks).
