Where to go in Southern Asia for a week?

I live in Korea with my wife who is originally from the Philippines and we have promised to take her brother on holiday next year for a week when he graduates from university. We are right at the beggining of our plans and so far we are thinking of either:

From Manila, you can get a cheap flight to Saigon, and start your week with Mekong delta and some beach time you are beach person. Or go up to central highlands is a fun trip too. You can have a trip with one of the easy rider in Dalat.

Vietnam is certainly the cheapest of the countries on your list. I love it there, but others hate the place. I suggest you do your homework about the culture and the scams that you might encounter. I'm not a fan of Saigon, but Hanoi, Sapa and Hoi An are wonderful destinations.

I live very very well on $45. - $50. a day in Vietnam, but other (usually younger) travelers say that $30. is possible. Vietnam Airlines is excellent for domestic travel.

Hiya, if you were thinking about Malaysia/Indonesia, you could pick up some cheap "promo" flights (ie. Seoul to KL) with AirAsia. KL is also a transport hub to other SEA locations which you could pickup equally cheap AA flights. They seem to have monthly promotions, announced through their online newsletter (if you subscribe to it), but you can only buy these flights online.
