Vaccines are so expensive at home (Australia). Can't I just get them when I get to Thailand? Won't they be cheaper there.
I'm from Victoria, but I don't remember paying a huge amount (may have been somewhere between $100-200, can't really remember) for when I went to India, and I got a lot of injections.
Some things may take a while to kick in so I'd get it done here, even leaving it to just 3 days before you go seems late - most people I know of allow 2 weeks or so. For example with a cholera prevention drink I had to start consuming a couple weeks before I left. (I don't think Thailand has cholera but that's just an example) Also malaria medication should be taken a couple days before.
Maybe it's a bit of money - but in light of an overseas holiday where you'll spend at least a couple thousand - I don't think your health is something you should compromise.

Thailand has lots of beautiful beach. There is always a variety on each island if you go looking for it, but below is a quickie summary:
Koh Samui - Large and very touristy (Lamai Beach, Lamai Beach, Chaweng Beach)
Koh Phangan - Haad Rin is beach party central! (Haad Rin)
Koh Tao - Cheapest scuba around and nice small island
Krabi/Railay - beautiful, rock climbing heaven, expensive (Railay Beach, Phi Phi Island, Ao Nang, Koh Lanta)
Koh Phi Phi - gorgeous, small, expensive, great diving
Koh Lanta - large, fairly quiet, Long beach is the best beach
Phuket - busy, loads of package tourists and vacationers (Patong Beach, Karon Beach, Kata Beach)
Koh Pu - very small and quiet, tree house bungalows
Koh Chang - Nice beaches, lots of tourists from Bangkok (White Sand Beach )
