Wanted inexpensive but proven accommodation in Amsterdam.I am 65, the accommodation I am seeking should be central, comfortable and clean plus affordable. Travelplans middle of March 2011

I'm not sure what you consider to be "inexpensive" and "affordable". For some people that's $20 a night. For others that's $100 a night.

If I were headed for Amsterdam though, I'd probably be looking at one of . There's some really comfortable looking ones with over 80% popularity and some nice reviews to go with them. At $117 per night, I'd consider this one to be an affordable option:

Hi Peter, Thank you for your reply. I tried to edit the headline of my request but it was too late. It is interesting what "inexpensive" and "affordable" means to other people. My trip to Europe is going to be on a shoestring! Cheers

If you are after a private room, a quick search shows them starting at about 40 Euros per night. That's a private room in a hostel though.

19 Euros per night, if you're making a hiking or cycling tour in the Netherlands!
Over 20 hosts in Amsterdam and 2 of them offer even accomodation on a houseboat.
Only for members of and only interesting if you really like to meet local families.

Check out 'The Old Quarter'.
It doesn't come more central than this, being right in the middle, the accommodation is very clean, not expensive at all, the restaurant and food is excellent with many local dishes being served - and the people that run it are exceptionally friendly and speak very good English.
It has it's own website too.
