Travelling alone to London ...and then a Contiki Tour

hello!!

Take some winter woollies.

Its easy, safe and quick to just get a train from heathrow to the city, whereabouts are you staying in london? if you get a train that connects to the underground then all you need is get a map of the underground and a map of the city and correspond you hotel location asthen you will know which line to get and at what stop to get off

and yes if yoou coming in the next 2-3 months its freezing here and London at this present time is under a layer of snow!!

Happy holidays

Leanne

Hi There,

Thanks for the replies!!

I am staying at the tavistock hotel near russell square station, ive got some directions and google mapped it, but still sooo nervous doing it alone!

ooooh thats amazing! i cant wait to see snow! and freeze lol im stocking up on the layers now!

what would be the best kind of footwear? i was thinking of trying to find some boots? but its sooo hard because its summer over here.

Take an old pair of sneakers that are slightly too large and the warmest socks you can find plus money for boots. Buy your boots in London. Expect to pay at least 50 pounds, decent warm boots that are wool-lined and comfortable cost money.

haha, might sound all good and "cool" (the snow and freezing part) but when you get here, youll prob wish you waited till a slightly better weathered month

tavistock hotel is in a good location, so you should be able to find interesting stuff on your doorstep + try asking the hotel workers for advice on where to go, or what to do, some of them are pretty good (and some are useless) as people are in life!

british museum is close to the hotel (few minutes walk) so dont forget to check that out, its not worth missing (or so ive been told, i think ill get down there sometime soon, i live near and havent been myself lol)

travel tips? erm not many! just be wise as you should be in any country or means of travel, keep expensive stuff out of sight (phones and jewellery) try to fit in rather than look like a non londoner! pickpockets can spot tourists a mile off so do what you can to prevent being targeted.

its not as bad as i make it sound

if you are taking days out in london on the trains, get a travel card rather than a separate ticket for each trip, works out so much better.
if you need any help just post up here and sure someone will help, or send me a message and ill try my best!

btw: london is awesome!

thank you all

"darker" - you have put my mind at ease about the pick pockets etc... it makes so much sense to try and blend in...i never actually thought of that. soo thank you

i leave tonight....sooo excited! but having a hard time packing lol

thank u again!
