Hi, I was wondering if there was still any possible way to get anywhere in Europe from any point in the US by ship other than a cruise. I've been looking online for boats, yachts, etc. but have found nothing.
Well, there is the Queen Mary II - but I doubt that is your style.
Is it possible with the strictness of everything today to work my way across on supply ship or something of that nature?
It is not forbidden to come to Europe that way if you are a US-citizen, but it will be difficult.
This time of the year is a bad time to look for such a project, yachts will be crossing from the Caribbean to the Med in spring (April) and will look for crews in Feb/March.
I think you'll have a very hard time getting work on a freighter ship. A brief bit of looking around indicates that you would need training to be eligible and be a member of the union as well.
You can pay your way on to a freighter, but if saving money is your aim, then this is a bad option since it's generally more expensive than flying.
Maybe your best bet is the yacht idea, providing you have some experience sailing.

Yep, it certainly is. I researched this a while back, and met a few people that have taken freighters. You are looking at $150per day, for several weeks.
It's not a lot of fun either. Sitting in your room looking a wall, or out to sea is about as good as it gets.
If this is your thing, try freightertrips.com should be of help. Terrible site, but once you email them, they are quite helpful.
Or like Peter said, a yacht is a better option. Perhaps finding an online yachting community would help. But again, I imagine you'll have to pay unless you have a lot of experience.
