TP seems to offer a nice good bit of features for its members and bloggers, is there any possibility in the future to be able to use TLD yourname.com or sub.yourname.com instead of yourname.travellerspoint.com? Even if it were a paid service?
That's been on the 'to do' list for a while... but it's more a power user feature than one we think would be very popular. You can of course already do masked forwarding, so the URL matches your domain, but the downside is then you can't link to direct posts; the link will always be to yourname.com...
Anyone else have thoughts on this?!
I agree its a power feature, Posterous doesn't charge for it however I see no reason to pay a small yearly fee for it. I am aware of the masked feature, I would use that feature until the ability to use CNAME is available. Perhaps TP would like to include some additional power features, but they already kind of do.
One thing that TP has going that travelpod does not is for unlimited photos and videos here on TP is free on travelpod it is not. I prefer to use Picasa as my centralized photo gallery which is why I debated on using TP vs wordpress so perhaps that would be something to add.
well its something I'd definitely use either way
Just on the photo front, you can actually include photos you have hosted elsewhere in your blog entries. There is a very good integration with Flickr for example (see the second tab on the photo insert popup), but you can also just add any photo from anywhere. I think it's definitely on the cards to include the option to insert photos from FB/Picasa easier (similar to the Flickr one) in the coming year (assuming their API's allow it).
wow is there anything you haven't done that I've thought of :P
I guess TP makes its money by selling accomodations, so that explains the free stuff and thanks for the replies.
No worries, just book a or or two while you are travelling (we combine a couple of different systems into one, so typically you'll find more choice here than elsewhere anyway!)
I have been managing a travel blog for several years on TP and have been waiting to be able to truly integrate my domain name with the site. I would like to be notified if this feature comes available, what is the best way to keep up to date on the latest features? If this feature ever gets implemented, how would i find out?
I love the site, but my grandma and other family can't remember the URL and are constantly referring the friends to the wrong URL!
Hey Mike, if you have an TLD you can set it to redirect (or mask) to the Travellerspoint blog URL if it's referrals like that which is the problem. The only thing that won't work in the case of masking is that a link like http://www.mydomain.com/1/ won't show http://mikeallover.travellerspoint.com/1/ but it should show http://mikeallover.travellerspoint.com/ . I'm guessing that's unlikely to be the kind of link that people type in though off of a referral
Thanks, that's what I'm doing now (non-masking). It would be nice to have the link in the subscriber email actually use my other domain name so that they don't get confused! You are right, the referral links wouldn't likely be a to a specific entry.
