Hey guys, my name is Fran and i'm 20 I have just recently come back from traveling. My last stop was Sydney (unfortunately that was all I saw of Oz) and I am planning to go back out maybe April/May time, maybe a little later than that, it depends on funds. I want to do my harvest work right away so I have a lot of cash to chill with afterwards. Has anyone else done it? Do you know which territory is the best place to do it in? Also was wondering if anyone else was going out there around the same time as I am doing it alone this time .. a little scary! Let me know your thoughts people

This is amazing, right, well I kinda know sydney and would love to start there and then move on to do the harvest work, but i hear whoever you do your harvest work with, you're kinda stuck with so I would like someone cool to hang out with You looking to do the rest of the east coast afterwards?

I am yeah There are a few places south of Cairs which look quite good and the pay/reviews/accommodation all seem pretty decent. I don't mind hard work but I don't want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere and dread going back to the hostel each night, if you know what I mean?

Yeah, I'm exactly the same, I've been looking around for places to stay and whether accommodation is included in the pay and everything. I think south of Cairns is a good place to look at though. Yeah I want to stay in a hostel with loads of other backpackers but is that asking too much ha? Are you hoping to sort it out in Sydney? I just want it out of the way as soon as possible!

I'm staying at the Wake Up Hostel. It seems really big and popular, the reviews are good too. I'm doing a tour thing from there too on the 12th May but it's only for 3 days, they give you advise on work etc so i'm hoping they will be able to help me out a bit.
I'm not planning on staying in Sydney for too long as it's expencive and I want to see as much as Oz as I can. Looking into Ozexperience, there is a pass from Sydney to Cairs which is valid for 6 months so I would use that to travel to the harvest area I pick, it can be extended to 12 months for a small fee so if need be i'll do that. Not sure how long i'll do harevest work but I want to try and get as much money as I can so I can hopefully get round to Perth without having to worry...

search for harvest trail calendar on google, it will bring up a few websites. for some reason it won't let me post the link as coming up as spam
Check that out, shows you when which crops are harvested in each state in Oz. There is fruit picking, packing, planting work available all year round it's simply a case of asking people in hostels and the surrounding areas who pays best, which farmers treat you well etc.
